Wear-resistant materials are the core of new materials and play an important role in promoting the development of high-tech. With the advent of the information society, special wear-resistant materials play an important role in promoting and supporting the development of high-tech. The key materials in the high-tech fields such as information, biology, energy, environmental protection and space in the 21st century have become the focus of research and development in the field of new materials in various countries of the world, and are also the hotspots of strategic competition in the development of high-tech countries in the world.

In view of the important position of wear-resistant materials, countries all over the world attach great importance to the research of wear-resistant materials technology. In 1989, more than 200 scientists in the United States wrote the “Material Science and Materials Engineering in the 1990s” report, suggesting that five of the six types of materials supported by the government belong to wear-resistant materials. In the “National Key Technologies” report, which was updated every two years from 1995 to 2001, special wear-resistant materials and product technologies accounted for a large proportion. In 2001, the Seventh Technology Prediction Research Report released by the Ministry of Science and Technology Policy of the Ministry of Education listed 100 important topics affecting the future. More than half of the topics were new materials or topics that depended on the development of new materials. Some are wear resistant materials. The EU’s Sixth Framework Programme and South Korea’s National Plan have highlighted wear-resistant materials technology as one of the key technologies in their latest technology development plans. All countries have placed great emphasis on the prominent role of wear-resistant materials in developing their national economies, safeguarding national security, improving people’s health and improving people’s quality of life.

In summary, wear-resistant materials have been called the core of new materials, which directly promote the development of high-tech, called the focus of research and development in the field of materials in various countries of the world. All countries have emphasized that wear-resistant materials have played a key role in developing the national economy, safeguarding national security, improving people’s health and improving people’s quality of life.
